How to write a speech
During a debate you could deliver a speech if you feel like you need to. But there are also certain rules which you should keep in mind. First of all, you have to address the Chair and the delegates/house. You may also address other persons who are present like the Ad-staffs, MUN- Directors and guests.
Further, you have to speak about yourself and about other delegates in the third person. You are not allowed to say “I” or “You”, but “We”, “He” or “She”. If you do not follow this rule the Chair will remind you.
Then, you can start your speech. When you are in open debate you have to state whether you are in favour or against the resolution. When you are not, it is usually not necessary.
In the speech you can emphasise your opinion with facts, examples etc. It is important to convince other delegates who are not your opinion. Nevertheless, you should stay friendly and polite.
In a speech it is further important that you are not telling them your own opinion but your country's one.
You should end your speech with a final sentence and by saying “Thank you” or “Thank you for your attention”. You can also add if you are open or not open for points of information. The last sentence that you have to say is “I yield the floor back to the Chair/to another delegate”.
